This essay introduces and examines aspects of the theological aesthetics contemporary Canadian artist, Michael D. O’Brien (1948–). It also considers how his philosophy arts informs understandings Catholic imagination. In so doing, it focuses on view that prayer is primary source imaginative expression, allowing artist to operate from a position humble receptivity transcendent. studies nascent field, owing much its development in recent years pioneering work Clemens Cavallin. Apart Cavallin, few scholars have focused O’Brien’s extensive collection paintings (principally because first catalogue art was only published 2019).
